Work Package 3: Demonstrative Operation of the Innovative System of Combined Biological Treatment for Co-Management of Organic Waste from Different Sectors of the Food Industry.

The demonstrative operation of the innovative system aims at combining three types of biological treatment to produce quantities of water, electricity, thermal energy and compost. Quantities of organic waste from five (5) sectors of the food industry will be used as feedstock. During the demonstrative operation of the system, continuous functional testing will take place in order to ensure the efficient operation of the individual subsystems and overall that of the innovative system. The test results will be recorded in diaries of operation while periodically sampling will be conducted for laboratory study of the physicochemical and biological characteristics of the treated material in every development stage of the individual biological processes, as well as in the final products for each type of organic waste, or alternatively by food industry sector. Also, operating system performance will be recorded continuously at a later stage in order to assess the effectiveness and efficiency in terms of sustainability and production of products with high added value.
